Women's Health - Heart Disease

After menopause, your body makes less estrogen. Lower levels of estrogen put you at greater risk for heart disease and stroke. High fat diet, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, physical inactivity and obesity increase your risk.

To reduce risk:

  • stop smoking
  • eat a well-balanced diet low in saturated fats
  • get plenty of aerobic exercise (three times a week for at least 20 minutes per session)
  • Get regular checkups
