Nationally renowned orthopaedic surgeon John A. Handal, MD, specializes in managing degenerative spine conditions (including
those affecting the lower back and neck), performing spine surgery, and repairing traumatic injuries. Using today’s most advanced
surgical techniques, including minimally invasive surgery of the spine, he corrects failed back syndrome, scoliosis, fractures,
deformity and cervical spine disorders. He is also skilled in rapidly evaluating, repairing and managing life-threatening
traumatic injuries such a blunt or penetrating trauma to the chest and abdomen, as well as complicated fractures of the arms
and legs. He has particular expertise in correcting pelvic fracture, one of the most complex traumatic injuries.
Dr. Handal received his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed his residency in orthopaedics
at Albert Einstein Medical Center and Shriner’s Hospital for Children. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the
Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Pennsylvania State University and two fellowships in orthopaedic trauma at the Maryland
Institute of Emergency Medical Service Systems in Baltimore, Maryland, and at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Dr.
Handal is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
