Einstein's
Living with Diabetes education program teaches people how to manage diabetes through diet, exercise and, if necessary, medications. The program
is offered at Albert Einstein Medical Center and Germantown Community Health Services.
Recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health for meeting national diabetes control guidelines,
Living with Diabetes is staffed by a team of diabetes experts including certified diabetes educators, dietitians, nurses, pharmacists and physical
therapists.
The team works with people who have diabetes, their families and their primary care physicians to develop safe, effective
and personalized diabetes management plans. The certified diabetes educators lead the series of four classes which begins
with an individual pre-assessment. A physician referral is required and most health insurance companies cover the cost of
the program.
Also accredited by the American Diabetes Association, the program covers the basics of diabetes, monitoring, hyper and hypoglycemia,
nutrition, exercise, foot and skin care, preventing complications, stress, medications, lifestyle changes and community resources.
